Having a blog on your website is a great way to keep people up-to-date with all of your creative happenings and to add that personal touch and connection your fans will come to crave.
It doesn’t have to be that long or time-consuming, but keeping up with a blog or online journey will really help people to continue to remember and think of you. WordPress has a feature where you can schedule posts in advance and can even link the post to your social media so that it is automatically shared on your Twitter and Facebook the minute it posts.
Below are some tips for creating content that can drive more traffic and attention to your brand. Remember, for all images and videos, you should get the rights or permission to use them on your website.
A quick and easy way to document all of your artistic accomplishments is to create a timeline. Every time you reach a landmark in your career, add it to a timeline page on your website. Hit 5000 Fans on Facebook? Add it to the timeline. Do a radio interview at your local college? Mention it there and provide the link. Album release. Put that in, too.
Videos are a great way to get people to pay attention to you. Post videos of yourself and your art. One quick rule is the shorter the better. I would not go above 2 minutes on most videos if it can be help. Beyond that, make sure the video is entertaining from the start to really catch your audience and keep them. Post the video on YouTube and then embed it in your WordPress Page or Post.
Photos & Images
Any time you can add an interesting photo to a status update or post, do it. Photos make sharing posts and statuses a lot more desirable and noticeable. If you or someone you know does quick graphics work, get an image made and include that in there.
Inforgraphics are the new thing. They are those little graphics with pictures and words and stats and such that share useful and fun information. There is infographics software you can purchase that is relatively inexpensive and fun to use. You can find or make an infographic and write a little blurb about it, then share it with your fans for a quick and simple post.
Having contests is a good way to engage your fan base. Looking for a good album cover artist? Throw a contest for the best artwork. Or have your fans do a cover of your song and arrange a contest for fans to vote for the best performance. You can get a voting contest plug-in to help with this. You will drive new potential fans to your site at the same time as you invite fan participation.
Everyone likes free stuff. Stage a giveaway and create a few simple rules. Want a free band t-shirt or show tickets? Like, Follow, Tweet, Share and Comment. Easy rules that boost your social media and get you out there to a wider audience. Increase Page Likes, Twitter Followers and general social media exposure and win some wicked loyalty by giving away cool stuff. Win-win.
Whether you employ some or all of these content ideas, the key is to be consistent in your output of content. Post on a regular basis to continue to stay in eyes and ears of your fans. Let them know what you’re up to. Start a conversation. Share. You’ll build fan loyalty and a growing base that will engage with you and your art for years to come.
